If I remember correctly (a rare thing)this was a school trip amd the first Met game was played a few weeks before. Maybe we both remember the first game played at Shea rather then the first game as Mets. I have always been a Mets fan but my brain in 1964 was probably more concerned with a different sort of game. Any clarification to offer? Anyone? One the Mets not my brain.

SEZ - You are truly a man of HONOR. It looks like Annika also won over 110% of those in the gallery. While not a complaint, just an observation, was she played a robotlike game. Because of every tee shot landing within 5' of where she wanted it ( a good thing), we never saw the need for her to make decisions or to really be challenged. Her only weakness, the putting game, would have been better if she had played 36 holes of miniature golf on Belmar's boardwalk with 'The Boys'every Sunday morning during the summer 33 years ago......before the bars opened. Thus our great 'on the green' talent.

Well at this point it appears that I might have been wrong about Annika.
I must say, however, that when I'm wrong, I do it in a big
way. Saying I was wrong is kinda like saying that the
Titanic had a rough maiden voyage. If you travelled the
whole world, from the top of the Himalayas to the bottom
of the South Pole, and gathered all the wise men and sages
on the face of the earth, put them in a room and asked of
them, "What can Sez do that would be more wrong than his
predicition of Annika's performance at the Colonial"? Let
them study in a room for two months. Maybe take it to
the University level for research. They would come out and,
to a man/woman say "Nothing". If I were stranded on a planet
populated with nothing but people who were wrong, in two
weeks I would be King. When the wrong of the world get together, 50 yrs from now, they would fondly recall my Sorrenstam predictions.
Even if she doesn't make the cut today she has proved her
worth, in that she can at least compete. More later
!

(Mmmm, some smooth talk) Yes, I was at the first Mets game at Shea Stadium on April 17,1964. I have the stubs next to me at this moment. Do you think I could get $1,000 for them on e-bay ? How about $10 for a pepperoni pizza ? The printed price of Mezz. Reserv. seats then .... $2.50 ....WOW. Too bad I was too young then to enjoy a Rheingold Extra Dry with my hot dog. Right now I am watching Annika Sorenstam against the PGA boys in Texas ....she is now 1 under after 6 holes , and thisclose to being 3 or 4 under. At the first hole the rednecks in the crowd had that "What is she doing here" look on their faces , by the end of six she is winning over many more fans. Her wildest dream though is a match with SEZ.

Mont- What do you think about that Wuss Clemens ? He expects the opposing team to play even after he throws balls and bats at their head , but once he gets a boo-boo on his knuckles he has to sit down. It should be interesting when Hall of Fame time comes if Steinbrenner is still alive. Clemens has almost 60% of his wins with Boston , so if Gary Carter wasn't allowed in as a Met , there is no way Clemens should be allowed in as a Yankee. Also, since my first husband's baseball influence on me. Mr. October was my hero, was at Mickey's 500th game at Yankee Stadium and at many other games all through those golden 70's years that they had. There is no stadium anywhere with the ambiance of Yankee Stadium. Not much into baseball in recent years however. But, would still route for them Damn Yanks when the opportunity arises. And, that has nothing to do with the fact that Steinbrenner kissed my hand at Cooperstown when I was up there for some inductee ceremony quite a few years back. So there. Bet you can't say that!!

she beats even one player, but u never know who might
show up hurt or sick or just give up after starting
bogey bogey bogey bogey bogey. Not a knock on Annika,
she's a great player on the LPGA, but she's gonna be out
of her element here, and in golf you can't get out of
your element, it screws up every part of your game. If
I'm proven wrong I will eat my words on
WOL, but I won't be proven wrong. In every way, shape
or form she will be proven to be someplace she shouldn't
be. I trust I have stated my position clearly. Oh yeah,

Mr. Schaffet always gave extra syrup in my "cherry with water" so I had a soft spot for him. The key to a great egg cream is the Fox's for sure. I order it online so that I can have vanilla and strawberry, chocolate is carried in WinnDixie but not the other flavors. I used to make them with cream soda but I just found a place that sells seltzer in a can. The measurements are printed on the glasses that came with the kit and make it much easier then guessing.

SEZ - Two quick sports notes .... yesterday Mrs. Jim and I had lunch in Eisenhower Park near her job. Upon leaving, traffic was backed up for 10 minutes as the procession went by for Dave DeBusschere's funeral. ( He lived about 2 miles from me). Mrs. Jim would have run up to the cars after finding out that John Havlicek # 17 attended. Regarding your rude remark about Phil Linz's harmonica .... do you think he was still able to play "Peg of my Heart" on it? I think that is the only song 90% of all harmonica players know, but I never heard Dyan or Stevie Wonder's rendition.

Ah SEZ you do know the secret that U-Bet syrup is a necessity. I taped it a year ago , when Arthur Schwartz (who has a 1 hour food talk show Mon.-Fri. on WOR radio)devoted his entire show to the history and making of egg creams. He had on the grandsons of the 2 guys who claim they invented them, the president of Fox's U-Bet and the president of one of the two remaining seltzer companies that still sell seltzer in pressure bottles. Despite his name, Arthur has even had shows of people discussing how to make the perfect BLT sandwich , reviews on NY's best pizzas , etc. His website is www.arthurschwartz.com (tons of great receipes) and I think you can listen to his show (noon eastern time) on www.wor710.com

I've been reading your posts for some time now and was waiting for a topic to
jump in on. When I left N.Y. I was exposed to some very different people here
in the south. Crude and a little rough around the edges. I've longed to come back
to civilization.Where gentlemen are gentlemen. I have been back to N.Y. many times
over the years and visited my old hometown of Woodhaven briefly as most of the
people I knew, save a few, are gone.I've walked the streets savoring the old sights
smells and sounds.I was surprised the last time I was there to see the old(big)
Lewis' was replace by some dinkey place on the other side of the street where
I think Woolworths used to be or was it the rug store? The Rexall Drugs, which
my grandparents owned and operated from the late 40's thru the 60's was closed
and boarded up.I'm saddened by the appearences of the town which I loved so much.I
visit the Queensboard and inadvertantly stumbled on to your site. WOW! Now that's
nostalgia. I'm sure that most of you who still live in Woodhaven are proud of
your town and would recommend it to others.I must say so far nothing has disheartened
me as much as the garbage I have seen posted on this board. Do you really think
that publishing comments about your farts and bowel movements reflects the caliber
of people in Woodhaven? Do you wonder why no one has posted on your bulletin board
in quite a while? I thought Woodhaven had changed a lot since I left as a sophmore
but I see now that many are still sophmoric. If this site is a reflection of'Your
Town' I wonder if you realize what it is you're advertising.........

I wish to extole the differences in farts: First off, there is the LOUD fart which makes everyone giggle and wish the guilty farter (not da mudder) has to admit, then there are the silent deadly QUIET farts, which are the worst ones. The reek of rotten eggs and are so awful that they could be packaged and sent to Iraq as a deadly weapon. They are particularly lethal in public places such as very crowded theatres and subways. Oh Boy! These farts should be fined and people jailed, but what could you do, take the the police dogs and have them stick their wet noses up everyone's bum to find out who dealt the deadly fart. Afraid not. How many of you are ACTUALLY farting as you are posting/reading this now? Also, next to the deadly silent farts there are the liquid farts which are so awful that they streak your underwear. I dont know about you guys, but many the times, I have farted a liquid fart only to later on look in my shorts and find SKID MARKS. My wife has complained about this to friends, but really, it is not intentional. How many of you have inadvertently left SKID MARKS in their drawers. HAPPY TRAILS!!!

I dont believe you were really waiting for me, as I had my sister dirve past there and slow down the car. She did see a weasle type of personality there, but said it was hard to determine if it was a man or woman. Sorry! Better luck next time. By the way, Who is running the show? You are being a bit too pushy about meeting me, lets all get to know each other first. Have a lovely day. I am working very hard. Take care, friend.

Ok Anti Skell will tell you what has been happening with the gigantic grey tree sized inflatable rat in front of Forest Park! You cannot miss it!! It has been there since Monday, and the reason is that the contractors protestin it are in their cars and havin lunch and saying that they are not getting the money they deserve! I dont know how long the rat will be there. YOU MUST HAVE SEEN IT!!!!!!! The rat is an insult to the corporation but I thought it was funny and thought it was some sort of promotion for Forest Park, and when I first saw it, thought it was like an Easter Bunny thing, something for the kids to enjoy! Then, I talked to a couple of people and found out the truth! That is the ENTIRE story of the gigantic rat!! Check it out Anti- Skell or else there will be no more WOOLY BOOLY FOR YOU!!!!

Happy Monday! I spent the day on Woodhaven doing shoppin and went into SCATURROS and was waited on by two cunty chicks that gave me a hard time with my coupons, then I had to take a wicked leak and because I was too lazy to go back to my house, walked into a dentists office instead and brazenly walked up to this Guyanese douchebag and asked her where the bathroom was and she said " R U a patient and I said " Of course, and went into the bathroom, took a jizz, and didnt flush for spite and walked out and as the douchebag asked me what my name was, I gave a bogus name and walked out!! Hee. hee. Went into the remaining big LEWIS and got some bags of Easter candy on sale to give to my sister's kids. Came home and had a productive bowel movement and now my gal just cooked me some nice chicken cutlet parmigiana and fresh peas and carrots and fresh spaghetti and marinara sauce. burp.......

AMEN, AMEN, Mr Mont - MY REVIEW - Last night's show was a memorable performance. Too bad all the music loving WOL members couldn't have also been in the audience. Lou Christie was a great surprise as he now looks much like Fabian , and is still able to reach the high notes of his many hits . This month is the 35th Anniversary of Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge and they delivered a 4 star performance, singing everything from songs by the Crests , the Belmonts, Jackie Wilson, the Rascals , the BB and an amazing performance of the Righteous Brothers 'Unchained Melody'. Topping it all off folks , sitting in the audience about 20 seats from Mrs. Jim and I and 15 seats from Mont and his son , was none other than Jay Black. Just another great show at Westbury , probably the best venue to watch a show within 1,000 miles. Be sure to catch this show if if comes to a town near you.

Thanks guys for the Stamps and Memories. lol. Now, does anyone remember the chinks restaurant? In my teen years during the sixties, I remember having the munchies and then apanhandlin underneath the el for spare change to go to the chinks and get some chinks food. I ordered pork fried lice, foo foo egg rolls, tea, pepper steak and fortune cookie. I dont go to chinks food anymore cos most of the people that I know complain of the shits and vomitin soon afterwards as they are very DIRTY the chinks places. Now with SARS I dont many people will be ordering it. ANyway, who remembers the chinks takeout during the sixties and Yes, I Used to sniff glue especially on the buses to Macys and to Ozone Park and would leave the bus window open as I got high in the back of the bus. I also used to play hookey with my close friend and we used to sniff WELDWOOD CONTACT CEMENT and Carbona with soaked rags. That was a stupid thing to do and know you see the effects of what it has done to my brain in my fifties. Here's a quick joke folks, do you know that I have a dog that was Ate before she was seven? haw haw...............How do you save a cockroach from drowning, you throw it a cheerios? The S&H store to redeem the books was on Liberty Ave. and 121 St. , just a few doors from Sam & Joe's Dairy. S&J had the best chocolate covered graham crackers and fresh cream cheese. Also on the wall was an autographed picture of Bernadette Peters who came from the OZ area and I think also worked there as a teen. Today Bernadette got good reviews as 'Gypsy' has reopened on B'Way.
