Was in Mahattan on Saturday to see Oklahoma (Mr. Marge's
Christmas present from me which also covered his birthday, 1/26). If you're ever
there and looking for a wonderful place for dinner, you may want to try Julian's
on 9th around 52nd. We were originally going to Mangia e Bevi (right next door),
but they couldn't take us for 15 mins . Julian's was mentioned in Bevi's add on
the internet so we went there instead. As it turns out, same owner, same kitchen.
The food was probably the best we've ever had, as was the service, and the bottle
of wine we chose. A little high on the noice decibels, but wonderful NY atmosphere
and well worth it. Also paid our respects at ground zero. It was very, very sad.
I could barely see from the tears in my eyes. And, they weren't from the cold.
Lots of folks down there trying to make a buck on the situation selling pictures,
etc., but that's free enterprise...that's America. Had drinks at a great tavern,
McGee's on 54th or so and if you want a fabulous hot pastrami on rye with mustard
with not a speck of fat, go to the Stage Deli down by ground zero. Except for
it being a bit nippy, mostly due to the wind, and the sad time at ground zero,
we had a fun day in our City.

To those of you who live in the 11 1/2 month sunny
and warm climates .... you know who you are. I was watching a seniors golf tournament
today and there was Arnie and Jack playing together. Is this an example of the
'good' the all year sun does for you ? My Mom was born in 1920 and she looks 10
years younger than 1929 Arnie or 1940 Jack. This evening I watched 'Lawrence Welk'

better than Arnie or Jack. So to keep my youthful looks , I say "Let it snow."

of a VERY RURAL Woodhaven. Only problem is street names, the site says Fulton St.
was Jamaica Ave. My Woodhaven book lists Fulton as now being 91 Ave. saying Jamaica
Ave . was originally Jamaica Plank Road. Benedict Ave. was 87 St., so the picture
was probably taken from near the firehouse.

The Queens section of Newsday's Jan. 19 edition has
a story telling of the Museum of Sound Recording moving into the old RKO Keith's
near Lefferts Blvd.. From the included photo you can see both Jahn's and Salerno's
Restaurant still on the theatre's sides. The article tells of the Marx Brothers
as a live act there soon after it's March 1929 opening. Mae West and Babe Ruth
are also listed as regulars across the street at the Triangle Hofbrau Restaurant
(which has now become medical offices). There is also a real estate ad for a two
family home at 76-08 85 Rd. (very close to Park Lane South), with taxes of $1200
a year. It can be yours for only $359,000. Woodhaven, you've come a long way.

Jimineola & Sez: I have no clue as to why it is called
"The Nature Coast" I guess because of the River and a bunch of pretty springs.
We do have several "au natrale" resorts but the average age of those "snow birds"
would make us look like babies. When it is 28 here there is no one walking around,
au natral, or any other way. The alligators don't even come out in this weather.
In better days I would go down to West Palm to wait out the frigid weather. If
we had our Woodhaven reunion "au natral" I am very afraid we would scare each
other more then the "natives".

I was thinking of picking up a box of White Castle
belly bombs the other day. They sell them in the frozen food section at the King
Soopers out here. Didja know that either fresh from the griddle or reheated frozen
ones, they all taste the same? I just miss going to the drive in on Atlantic Ave
and watching the people. In my college days, my friend Theresa and I would drive
into the city once a month to hit the book stores down in the Village and just
catch up with each other. On the way home, we'd always stop at the W/Castle on
Atlantic where they brought stuff out to the car - and we'd watch the rest of
the "diners". One time, we even saw her uncle the musician and his floozy girlfriend
having an argument in their car. What fun!

Marge , Maurice was the outspoken one who almost always
wore a hat. I think he sometimes played the keyboard. According to what I read
, originally they said he had an intestinal blockage , but later I read where
his intestines were badly twisted and doctors had removed 80 % of them. He died
after this surgery , but questions remain unanswered.

Seeing the Bee Gee's in person was one of my new goals,
especially after I saw that interview with them on Larry King Live last year.
What an awful loss for the music world. Besides some of the greatest disco, they
made many wonderful contributions to their art. From that interview I got the
feeling that, while I'm sure they've had their problems and been bad boys at times,
they really seemed like nice guys. I'm confused on which one was Maurice. I know
which one Robin is. It's really sad and a huge loss and a bit scary. Does anyone
know what this stomach surgery was for? As of Saturday's paper they were not divulging
that info.

Lois & Sez, I don't know if you caught it ,but CNN

the Bee Gees were his guests. No live singing but great interviews and film clips

bad either. They are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March

Sorry to see Maurice go. Hated to see the newspaper pidegonhole their career to
the disco genre. They were so much more than that, and made miles and miles of
great music well before disco era. I remember when Alan and I saw them at Carnagie

GO BACK TO RUSH LIMBERGER
USA - Monday, January 13, 2003 at 01:52:47 (GMT)
If you lived as a child in the 40's, 50's, 60's or
70's. Looking back, it's hard to believe that we have lived as long as we have...
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the
back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. Our baby cribs
were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on
medicine bottles, doors, or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.
(Not to mention hitchhiking to town as a young kid!) We drank water from the garden
hose and not from a bottle. Horrors. We would spend hours building our go-carts
out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.
After running into the bushes a few times we learned to solve the problem. We
would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when
the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. No cell phones.
Unthinkable. We played dodge and sometimes the ball would really hurt. We got
cut and broke bones and broke teeth, and there were no law suits from these accidents.
They were accidents. No one was to blame, but us. Remember accidents? We had fights
and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it. We ate
cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank sugar soda but we were never overweight...we
were always outside playing. We shared one grape soda with four friends, from
one bottle and no one died from this. We did not have Play, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes,
video games at all, 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal
cell phones, Personal Computers, Internet chat rooms ... we had friends. We went
outside and found them. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked
on the door, or rung the bell or just walked in and talked to them. Imagine such
a thing. Without asking a parent! By ourselves! Out there in the cold cruel world!
Without a guardian. How did we do it? We made up games with sticks and tennis
balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put
out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever. Little League had
tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't, had to learn to deal
with disappointment..... Some students weren't as smart as others so they failed
a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade.....Horrors. Tests were not
adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected.
No one to hide behind. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was
unheard of. They actually sided with the law, imagine that! This generation has
produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever.
The past 50 years has been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom,
failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And
you're one of them. Congratulations!
Happy New Year

Today's death of Maurice Gibb - A sad day in our memory
of the music that was a great part of our lives. Although the brunt of a million
jokes, there isn't anyone between 30 and 60 who can't sing along to a dozen Bee
Gee songs. I met Mrs. Jim at McNulty's Bar, Rockaway in 1968 and the first time
we danced was when 'The Poor Souls' (their house band) played "To Love Somebody"

Picture Maker is a Kiosk that some stores have. KMart, Sams Club, Walmart, Walgreen,
CVS and some others have them. I used it last night because I had a problem downloading
some pictures to my computer from a digital camera. You can copy or scan them
to CD,floppy disk or have prints made. It is about .48 each to copy to media and
about 3.00 r a print. Of course it would be a lot easier and cheaper to find a
friend willing to scan them for you. Good Luck, I would love to see them also.

Saw this during a search on "Woodhaven". It is called
VARIATIONS OF NOW by Bob Balogh. He has a radio show out of CT. The link is above
if anyone is interested. The story goes like this: THE PACIFIER - "Walking to
my appointment in Woodhaven, Queens on a Tuesday morning in November, I saw a
squirrel dart in front of me with something odd in its mouth. I stopped to take
a closer look at what it was, and the squirrel, being as tame as any NYC squirrel,
obliged me and sat still. The thing in its mouth was much bigger than an acorn.
I thought maybe it was an acorn attached to a branch or perhaps it was a food
scrap from a neighborhood garbage can. No, it was not food. It was plastic. Crouching
down for a final inspection, the squirrel allowed me to come in close and see
that the odd plastic thing was a baby's pacifier. And the squirrel was using it
just like a baby does. The nipple-shaped part of the thing was held securely in
its mouth. How did this happen? I thought. Why was this squirrel attracted to
a discarded pacifier? It did not look or smell like food. Don't tell me the squirrel
was having emotional problems and stole it from a baby for some comfort. Well,
the little rodent looked good and content sucking on the thing. It could have
been that the Sanitation truck came that morning and took away all of the tasty
trash , with the street sweeper not far behing to whisk up whatever Sanitation
dropped. And those big machines take up more than the food supply. They are know
to run over all kinds of critters and reduce them to nonexistence. Chances are
those trucks made roadkill out of this squirrel's friend or lover. That is enough
for Squirrel Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on any block in any town. And good
reason to get a pacifier and suck away the blues. That is what I decided to believe,
right there on the sidewalk of 76th Street just off Jamaica Avenue in the shadow
of the elevated J train. After my appointment a few blocks away down on 91st Avenue,
I walked back by the spot where I saw the squirrel. I was catching the train on
Jamaica Avenue. Coming toward me on that sidewalk was a young mother pushing a
baby in a stroller. The baby looked to be about a year and half. I am a grandfather
now, so I am pretty good at guessing ages of little kids. The mother looked older
than she should have. A lot more mileage than calendar age. 21 going on 41. Tired
eyes, wrinkled brow, permanent frown. Her sandy hair was buzzed cut. One side
of her nose was pierced with a silver ring. She was dressed in a black tee shirt,
ripped blue jeans, black boots and an olive drab Army jacket. And she was taking
heavy drags on a Marlboro. Right there where I met the squirrel, the mother stopped
the stroller and began searching the sidewalk and gutter for something only she
knew. The baby became uncomfortable with the stalled ride and squirmed and cried.
But the mother kept her head down, looking around the area. As the crying increased,
the mother wished that she could cry, too. Oh, how she would love to let loose
and cry, scream, yell and wail. Then take a nap, same as the kid does all the
time. And then wake up refreshed and optimistic. But there she was, stuck on 76th
Street in Woodhaven inspecting the ground for something she lost. "Did you drop
something?" I asked. The mother didn't realize I was standing near her on the
sidewalk. Surprised, she looked up. "Oh, hi," she said, nervously. "Yeah, I'm
trying to find my baby's pacifier." "Well, how about that!" "What?" "That's where
the squirrel got it from." "I don't know what you're talking about, and you better
just keep walking and leave us alone." "No, really," I said. "There was this squirrel
sucking on a..." "Get the hell outa here before I call the cops!"

Happy New Year! Tired of unchanged resolutions? Jesus
Christ is the only way. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
the old has gone, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5: 17 NIV. Romans 3:23 NIV
says "for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". "God will give
to each person according to what he has done. To those who by persistence in doing
good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those
who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath
and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil.
"Romans 2:6-9NIV. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed
out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw
them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Matthew
13:41-42 NIV. HOWEVER, THE GOOD NEWS! John 3:16 says God loves us so much that
he gave his only son so that we may have eternal life. " ...If you confess with
your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 6:23
NIV"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord" Romans 10:9-10 NIV. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."1 John
1:9 NIV. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior?

and much more sleep. I saw him on Monday as 10 of the old boys went out for a
Manhattan steak dinner and maybe one or two drinks .... I really can't remember.

EL PRESIDENT JIMINEOLA.......Now that I said you sound
Mexican you might want Alfanzo and Ordenez in your cabinet. Sounds like a scene
from Woody Allens "Bananas".I can hear the trumpets blaring as you enter the room. How
many cakes should I bring???

Well, here it is, a New Year, and nothing's changed.
Same old shit as last year, retired, sleeping till 8. Getting up every morning
and having to make the brutal decision - Do I play golf today or go down to the
casino and play a little poker - Life Sucks! Oh wait, no it doesn't, life is great!!
Wish I had thought of this retirement thing 20 yrs ago. Maybe a little trip up
north to visit my pal Anti-Skell and his Anti-Pooch is in order. Well whatever
it is it'll have to wait, I feel a little drowzy, maybe a little nap 'fore I start
the day.

BABY BOOMER - How about El President Jimineola ? I'll
let you know when any hot news regarding the Mets comes across, although we are
not overly impressed with their new members or losing Alfanzo or Ordenez without
real replacements. Glad you can get WFAN at times to hear Mike and Maddog screaming.
My daughter went to college in Salisbury ,MD and we were always able to pick up
WFAN while visiting there.

Jimineola---If you run out of balls next year(to drop),I

said that there is truth in the adage "there is no time like the present..."

Thank you Mr. Mont .... do I get to lower the New
Year's Eve ball over Lewis' roof in 364 days? This is quite an honor, didn't Teddy
Roosevelt start out as a mayor and eventually buy a beautiful condo on San Juan
Hill. Maybe Rich of Vero can get me a good deal. Happy New Year to all!!
