I never understood why...then. So, ANTI-SKELL...are you in need of any younger sisters? Glad I gave up milk years ago! Mr. Marge is Ben, by the way.

Too late Anti, she already has her sponser. Sez, I was commenting on your times and her current ones. What they both have in common is great ice cream and no one getting sued. Ah, never mind. She no longer plays for Rich-Haven, but they are still going strong and play on the Victory Fields diamonds. The area in the park which was originally a man made pond (opposite the Merry Go Round), then filled in to make baseball diamonds, has been gutted again to restore the pond (still in progress). It will be nice to have the park restored to have a pretty pond, gorgeous band shell, merry go round and ball parks again. The transformation up there is amazing.

J.J. - Crossing guard was indeed Mrs. McMahon, as Jim suggested. Marge - Remember Mr. Phillips well, used to arm wrestle him in the cafeteria. He was a great guy, and put up with me even though I couldn't stay awake in his class. Jim - Did u say Smokey Oval. That's where I made history in the Rich Haven Little League with the Hawks. We went 18 and 0 and then beat a team of All-Stars. Had the best pitcher in the league Paul LaVechia. Spelling is suspect! We were always jealous of the team sponsered by Jahns though, 'cause they always got ice cream after each game. They were simpler times. They probably wouldn't do that now, 'cause if a kid got sick on the ice cream, they'd get sued!!

JOHN JENSEN- I think the 85 St. crossing guard was either Mrs. McMahon whose daughter Karen was in the FKLane '65 class or it was Mrs. Tims whose daughter Patricia was in my STA '60 class. GHOST of WOL- At the WOL dinner, to wash the food down, don't forget the aged Miller bottles that were always under the bowling machine at the Circus Bar. MARGE- YES, the Entenmann's ultimate crumbcake is great as is their German butter square, which is made only a few months each year. My waistline's biggest problem is that I live only 6 blocks from one of their outlet stores. On Wednesday, the black line cake is 5 for $5 ... lots of seniors pile their cart to the ceiling at that price. Insulin anyone ??? I didn't know how close we were to each other when JFK was shot. I was in Dr. Jacoby's office (1 block south of the Forest Pkwy. library) getting treatment on my knee, when we heard the news. Does anyone remember Smokey Oval, the ballfield on Atlantic and 126 St.? Just before it, was the Bordens milk processing plant and if you were there when one of the huge milk tanker trucks was trying to back in ,then forget about moving your car for about 10 minutes.

John Jenson: Remember Dugan's and milk deliveries. My mom still has the milkbox. She leaves it out for large mail deliveries or boxes. Can't remember the name right now, but would love to get my hands on one of their old milk bottles. Dugan's was great, and nothing is like NY bakery, however, the very best is Entemann's (sp?) ultimate crumb cake! To die for! I remember the Sunrise. There are still a few drive-in movies left around the country. We have one around here somewhere, but it's not operating anymore. I was in Mr. Phillip's Social Studies class when JFK was shot. He was also a Rabbi. He cried when he had to tell us. He was a wonderful man. Did not go to 97. Was in P.S. 60 for a half term and then(was it 61 or 62) the next one you moved into. Then went to STA until '61. Lane '61 to '65. And, I'd hate to see WOL go away. While there can sometimes be some real ---- (fill in the blank), there are some great memories that can peek through once in a while. It's also fun and a good feeling to have a connection to home. I, for one, would hate to lose that.

I don't know if anyone remembers a Mr. McGovern from PS 97. It was probably back in 1962. He always made sure we had a tie on. If we didn't two thing would happen. First, he'd punch you in the arm. Quite hard as I remember. Then he'd make you wear a big wide paisley tie that he kept quite a collection of just for that reason. I still have my old autograph book. Good ol' green and gold! Anyone remember Mrs. Zimmerman from 97? I was in Gym class at FK Lane when Mr Sager announced that JFK was shot, then a short time later he announced that he was dead. I'm also remembering when Green Acres shopping center was one level, and access to all the stores was from the outside. It was an open air mall back then, alongside the old Sunrise Drive-In. Does anyone remember Bob's candy store on jamaica Avenue between 76th, and 77th? How about Wonderama? I think that was with a Guy named Sonny Fox on Channel 5, WNEW. My dad used to deliver for Dugans bakery on Atlantic Avenue. Man that was good stuff. I heard Entenmanns bought out Dugan's but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I miss the food most of all. It's all so bland here in Missouri. Talk at you all soon!

Karen, having grown up in Woodhaven the Jamaica Gertz was always our main shopping spot.In case you haven't been out there in a while, the Hicksville Gertz became a Stern's and has now become a Macy's. These stores change faces faster than Michael Jackson. I think the Gertz you are talking about was part of what was originally called the 'Mid-Island Mall' and about 10+ years ago became the 'Broadway Mall'. It's a great place to go as it is far less hectic than Roosevelt Field or Green Acres, and for us guys who are ready to do our Valentine's Day shopping ... it has both a Victoria's Secret and a Fredrick's of Hollywood. When we give gifts from these stores the wives can then remark " I bet it was a really cute salesgirl who talked you into buying THIS outfit." So much for romance. Also, the Sears across the steet is still there , which is the first one I ever remember.

I remember ice cream malts from Gertz Department Store in Hicksville, Long Island, N.Y. They served soft ice cream in a glass with chocolate or strawberry syrup. My girlfriend and I would visit the jewelry department where they personalized the charms. The girl that did the inscribing would save all of her mistakes, and give them to Linda and I. They we would go have a malt. Still miss Gertz.

- A new computer bug that tries to trick computer users into clicking on a virus-infected Web link masquerading as party photos emerged in Asia on Monday morning and began spreading to Europe, computer experts said. The so-called ``My Party'' worm, which is not considered destructive, spreads by infiltrating popular email software Microsoft Windows Address Book and Outlook Express Database. The worm emails itself to every person in an infected users' email log making it look as if the worm comes from a colleague or friend, experts said. Anti-virus specialist Trend Micro gave it a medium risk rating. Security firms said that compared with past email worms, such as Nimda and Sircam, the number of reported ``My Party'' infections thus far is moderate. The virus arrives as an email with the subject line ``new photos from my party!'' It contains an innocuous looking file attachment called www.myparty.yahoo.com. A message in the body of the email reads: ``Hello! My party... It was absolutely amazing! I have attached my web page with new photos! If you can please make color prints of my photos. Thanks!'' Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos Anti-Virus, said because it carries what appears to be an authentic link from the popular Web portal Yahoo and appears to come from a colleague or friend, the worm has the potential to spread quickly. As of 1200 GMT, Sophos received reports of infection from corporate clients and academic institutions in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Sophos has devised a patch at: http:/www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyzes/w32mypartya.html.

Jim of Mineola - sorry for the delay in answering your question - I'm just checking back in for the first time since last week. I attended P.S. 97 from 1957 to 1960. Had Miss O'Connor, Miss Ruggieri, Mrs. Gohery (sp?) and Miss Frisse. I believe Mr. Colbath was the Principal for the major part of that time. Does anyone remember that when Miss O'Connor wanted the class's attention, she played four notes on the piano that meant "please look at me"? I fondly remember things such as (ofcourse) Lewis' store (how do you write the plural of that correctly? - I think I was absent the day they went over the apostrophe rules!) Behren's Ice Cream Parlor, SunBrite grocery store, Dottie & Phil's, the Empire Diner, etc. etc. Also going up to Forest Park on the swings, and running through the water they turned on up there in the summer - does anyone out there remember that? Sure did love living there! Anyone else have memories from that era?

Sez, you have to get back here to NY. Vanilla Fudge will be at the B.B.King Blues Club on Jan.28. A few days later on Feb 2 is James Brown ... it could be like Johnny Williams East all over again. For those of you who don't remember James Brown ... go back to Puffy or P. Ditty or whoever.

John Jensen: I remember the Valencia and the ceiling that looked like a night sky with stars and wispy clouds. Saw Lawrence of Arabia there with ex-hubby. Probably lots of other movies too. Spent lots of shopping time at Macy's, Mays, Gertz. Had a friend whose mom worked at Gertz. Entered a modeling contest there at around 11 or 12. And probably visited a few Santa's there too. I remember my first big day of going on the train to shop in Jamaica by myself. Had a bad experience on the way back with some guy exposing himself, but I didn't have my glasses on and was blind as a bat so never really quite got it. Just knew something was wrong and changed cars...really fast. I was so scared. Also spent lots of shopping time on Myrtle Avenue. Took the Woodhaven Blvd. bus and then the Myrtle Avenue bus to get there. Remember getting winter coats and hats, holiday dresses etc. Those were the days when you wore hats, gloves and always had a new outfit for Easter and Christmas.

All this talk of the Fudge, has me anxious to break out the vinyl. Think I have at least 3 maybe 4 Fudge albums going back, I guess, 30 yrs. As I remember one of them is kind of a travelogue thru the yrs of all kinds of music with the constant thread of "The Beat Goes On" weaving it together. Anybody familiar with that. I'll see if I can find it, and put it on the old turntable. For those under 30, a turntable is, well never mind.

You will be given just one plate...because,that is all you will be able to eat !!! You will have a choice of one of two entrees, because ,that is all we will have on any given week !!! The choices will probably be limited to either " fettucini composto " or Dinty Morbid Stew, with rodent bits...This will be washed down with our special house vintage wine "Chateau Jockstrap"...you will recognize this excellent wine by the crying skull and crossbones on the label . George W. Bush was walking through an airport last week, when he saw an old man with white hair, a long white beard, wearing a long white robe and holding a staff. He walked up to the man, who was staring at the ceiling, and asked "Excuse me sir, aren't you Moses?" The man stood perfectly still and continued to stare at the ceiling, saying nothing. Again George W asked, a little louder this time, "Excuse me sir, aren't you Moses?" Still the old man stared at the ceiling motionless without saying a word. George W tried a third time, louder yet. "Excuse me sir, aren't you Moses?" Again, no movement or words from the old man. He continued to stare at the ceiling. One of George W's aides asked him if there was a problem, and George W said, "Either this man is deaf or extremely rude. I have asked him three times if he was Moses, and he has not answered me yet." To which the man, still staring at the ceiling finally replied, "I can hear you and yes, I am Moses, but the last time I spoke to a bush, I spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness."

Mont - I am not familiar with "This is where I came in". I must say however, I find it hard to believe that anything would be "far superior" to anything they ever did before. I only say that because I hold the BG's in the highest of regard, and think they did some, no, a lot of the best pop songs of the 60's and yes even the 70's. From the BG's 1st, a superb album with the likes of To Love Somebody and I Can't See Nobody, to Idea, and on thru the disco era they made great pop music. I will have to research that particular song and see what I think. Is it recent?

Btw, my uncle used to know Carl and always stopped in his diner for lunch. The dirt is that Carl's son in law worked for him there. Carl paid him little and worked him like a dawg while Carl shmoozed it up with the customers. There's always dirt, folks. Speaking of dirty biz, the Enron stuff is heating up. Maybe that's why Georgie fell off the room and scraped his face?

John and all others - I hope everyone had a chance to eat Mike and Flo's fish store french fries. They were THE BEST , and 10 cents for the small bag and 25 cents for the large. The same large today at Nathan's would be $2.49. Anyone who wants to view a website full of great memories go to www.forgotten-ny.com It has hundreds of pictures and stories of NY oddities from the 30's to the 60's including trolley cars, cobblestone streets, lightposts ,billboards and a million other things. When you are on the home page, click on 'street scenes' and then halfway down the right side is 'abandonded luncheonette'. This link give you pictures and stories of the great Carl's Diner which was on the corner of Fulton St., Rockaway Blvd. and 75 St. If you are ever snowbound this winter, this site will entertain you for days.

Jim of Mineola, Marge the real one I'm sure is still here, Tish, also, Sez, if it's the real one, Mr. Anti-Skell himself, and me. It that 6? - Hubby's cousin, although very smart, and has a regular job, hits the flea markets then turns around and sells the stuff on e-Bay site. He had made quite a bit. So there he sits behind his closed door, maybe wearing his uncle's leisure suit laughing his A** off at the rest of the world who thinks Wilkes Barre is the END of the world. WB is not far from Scranton and years ago I heard a comedian describe Scranton: Ugly people don't die, the are reincarinated in Scranton. - WB give me that same feeling.

I take back all those things I said about you. However, can we talk about that "dowager" thing? KML85 - You are right 'gradfinder' is free :), but it just hasn't caught on like 'classmates'. I am listed on both, but I like classmates layout better and for some reason they have about a 4 times larger database. Plus, gradfinder makes you remember a password. If I use my ATM password, will $50 bills come out of my laptop? By the way, remember 10-15 years ago ,banks told us to get used to ATMs because you would be charged to use a teller? I guess that was another big business lie that they turned around in their favor.A bit of Woodhaven landmark news is Columbia Savings Bank is no longer, now called Community Bank of NY.

Jim of Mineola: I read your post to my wife and she knows all those places very well. She grew up adjacent to the first tee on that course (her Mom still lives there). I enjoy having my morning coffee in the backyard watching the duffers slice their first shots of the day. She also worked as a lifeguard at the pool for a number of years and in those days there was no fence between the yards and the pool, so everyone would just walk back and forth through her yard. Imagine trying to do that in this day and age. Someone would get shot. The first time I brought my children to her Mom's house (they were 6 & 4), it only took about 5 minutes before the local kids came ringing the doorbell to ask the 'new' kids to play baseball. Very unlike N.Y. I was quite impressed. By the ways, my bro in-law also resides in Media.

Patricia Sweeney - Hi from a neighbor in Mineola. I was in the St. Thomas class of 1960 and had a Martha Sweeney in my class. Any relation? Despite some of the wacky posts on this site, if you note your school, year of graduation and names of close friends from your teen years in Woodhaven, there is a fair chance someone will be able to make a connection. Also, try going on 'classmates.com' for old friends. That site has had some software troubles and has mixed the St. Thomas of Woodhaven with the St. Thomas of West Hempstead ... take a look at their page also for familiar names.

BUSTER - Maybe your wife and I are long lost cousins. My Mother's family (Kirk), going back 300 years settled in the Rose Tree section of Media. Their son married the daughter of John Taylor who owned the property that the Springfield Golf/Country Club sits on. If you walk about 300 feet beyond the new clubhouse you will see the yellow house built by my Great,...,...,...,.,,, Grandfather in the late 1600's still standing.Attached to it is an addition built in the mid 1700's. Two years ago I was there and spoke to the Club Manager and he gave me a tour of the house.Relatives also owned a tavern (still standing) which is now the admissions office of the Agnes Irwin School on Ithan Ave.,about 2 blocks south of the Villanova Stadium. I also have been to the graves of many of the Kirks and Taylors in the various Quaker cemeteries in the area. Others became Methodists and are buried at the St. David Cemetery. Most of this information ,I found out about from a third cousin, but I had the chance to see in person, as my daughter graduated from Villanova this past May. After her graduation we ate at Bellissimos on Baltimore Pike ... great food, even better than Bella Vista. Now that the Jets are done for the season,I'll have some time again for this site.Say hello to your wife - the Wildcat. Hope I didn't bore the rest of you. Zzzzzzzz.

Where Do, most 401k plans are fairly safe as long as no more than 10 percent of the total is in one stock. The problem was that Enron demanded that the company and employee contributions be deposited and held in their stock until withdrawl time started at 59.

Where do they get- No,you don't go to a Mom and Pop store to get Energy Department advice ... but it isn't in good taste to go a company whose Chairman gave $200,000 to your election campaign. Todays Newsday reports that Enron's top executives cashed in $1,102,544,672 (yup, that's billion) in stock options, while it was obvious that the company was sinking. Bush campaigned that he was going to clean up the US government from the slime of the Clinton days. If he really means that, let him go in front of the American people and tell them he is appointing a blue ribbon panel to investigate this group who stole BILLIONS from investors and from 401k plans of blue collar employees. If George will not do this, all I can saw is COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVE -MY ASS. More like - THEY SCREWED THE LITTLE GUYS - SO NO BIG DEAL !!

To add...The real blame for the overstatement of their balance sheet lies with Enron's executives and Arthur Andersen's audit and consulting work. Just as an FYI, Arthur was paid $27,000,000 (that's right-MILLION) for consulting work, and $21,000,000 for audit fees. Now you tell me, how can you miss all the offsheet debt incurred by this company? Before anyone says that Arthur's firms are separate (Accenture is the consulting firm now. They split acrimoniously last year) I just can't buy the fact that the auditors missed all that debt. Yeaterday they revealed that they destroyed thousands of pages of information relating to their audit of Enron, and have asked former Missouri AG and US Senator John Danforth "to conduct an immediate and comprehensive review of Andersen's records management policy and recommend improvements". That sounds like a CYA plea to keep the firm out of court (they are headed there soon, I guarantee). I have a recommendation - Don't destroy your records when the company you audited goes down in flames due to debt that was missed during the audit! If this ever happened to me, I'd be in deep s**t. I think Lloyd's (or whoever their liability insurance carrier happens to be) is about to go ape. I feel sorry for the employees that lost their shirts (shoes, pants, and underwear too) due to the actions of Enron's executives. They filed a lawsuit seeking to freeze the billions executive earned when they sold their stock while the "ordinary joe" had to hold theirs. I hope the executives that were responsible are punished beyond the limits of the law. I "personally feel" they are guilty of fraud.

Hello.....As much as I hate to do this..I want to respond to the person lifting news stories about Enrongate off the news sites.I try to never respond to someone who isn't original enough to use their own words.Instead they must use someone elses words/editorials to try and argue an debate....On to Erongate.....I disagree that this will be Bush's "WhiteWater" scandal...BUT IF....it is indeed shown that Bush or the people that work for him did use their influence to assist any fraud committed by Enron, then they deserve whatever penalties apply.I really don't think this will turn out to be that big a deal but it certainly has the potential too....OK..lets rip that editorial...."exposing what is wrong with the way the Bush administration is conducting itself these days.".In what way was this person talking about? That the Bush administration asked for input from the nation's largest energy trader on our countrys energy needs..he found this bad business? You don't go to the corner "mom and pop" store to ask advice like this, you go to the top company, which was Enron.Or was he meaning that Eron was Texas based and Bush is friends with Ken Lay?It should be irrelevant...Eron was the nation's largest energy dealer that Bush asked advice from on the countrys energy needs......." How a small group of business leaders exert enormous clout over Bush and his team in getting the rules changed to their benefit.".....The reality is Enron was a major contributor to Democrats and Republicans alike. The taint touches both parties. That Enron tried to capitalize on their contributions and get the administration to intervene and they didn't. That's not a crime. I'll make this as clear as possible: We will probably see some Enron execs go down for fraud. Those same Enron exects tried to use their contributions in an effort to have the administration intervene in their impending collapse. The administration refused. Had they accepted, and had Enron's management been proven to be fraudulent, then that would be influence peddling, and that WOULD BE a major scandal. And I would point out...the Bush Administration would then deserve whatever they got. It would be the equivalent of what did happen with Whitewater. The Bush Administration was under no obligation to intervene, and as the investigation of Enron proceeds along criminal lines, they'll be glad they didn't......"It will explain why Bush has locked up presidential records, locked out any voices opposed to his pro-business agenda "....This is the first that i'm hearing of sealed/locked up records. What voices has he locked out.....Greenspan liked it........"rammed through an expensive economic plan that wiped out the budget surplus but to date hasn't had any positive effect on the economy. ".......The economy has been heading into a recession for the last 1-2 years.Everyone saw it coming. The economy was holding it own till 9-11-01 happened. This just made it a hell of a lot worst.Bush has tried to enact an economic stimulus plan to boost the economy back up. It's been dead in congress, being held up by a power move from Tom Daschle. You can say it's not a power move but the man MIGHT run for president next term.I think it's in his best interest if Bush looks like a fool...don't you?...."It will explain what influence Enron Chief Executive Ken Lay and his advisers had with Cheney and his energy task force when they met six times last year while the vice president was putting together the administration's energy policy."....Um....How can you ask someone to advise you and not meet with them? And meeting 6 times doesn't seem enough to me with something this important....."And it will explain why Bush is now thinking about acting on a proposal from that very task force that seeks to roll back a key provision of the Clean Air Act that helps keep factory pollution down by requiring new controls when old plants are upgraded"...Bush wanted to roll it back cause we were the only following these guidelines.Still,I think this was a very bad move by his administration.Lets leave a clean world for the next generation, not like we had it handed to us.....Again, I can't say this enough: the issue is not whether Bush knew in advance that Enron was having problems. The people who rated Enron's bonds knew. The scandal would be if Bush new that some crime (yet to be proven) was committed by Enron execs and either ignored it, or used government influence to somehow help the criminal execs to avoid justice. And again, the Dems will probably break out the old refrain of "Bush is a captive of big interests, else he would have saved Enron." That will probably fly for awhile. But I think he's better served taking that PR hit, then being implicated in bailing out a corrupt organization. Because if he had pushed for that, then there would be real issues.

I wonder if President Bush will have a press conference in Woodhaven to tell us that his good buddy, supporter and Enron chief Mr. Lay should spend 25 years in jail for insider trading, cooking the books, etc. Is this message Ok because I included the word Woodhaven?

The Enron debacle won't be President Bush's Whitewater. It will be much worse. Unlike the financial sideshow over a 20-year-old failed land deal that dogged the Clinton administration, the collapse of the nation's largest energy trader into the nation's largest bankruptcy last month is set to go straight to the heart of exposing what is wrong with the way the Bush administration is conducting itself these days. Once a buyer for Enron's energy-trading business is announced Thursday in New York, this story is going to shift in dramatic fashion to Washington, D.C., where there are already eight separate congressional probes into the collapse, one Justice Department investigation and scores of unanswered questions. Many of them concern the White House. Don't expect to see either Bush or Vice President Cheney directly linked to the financial shenanigans that brought Enron down. They won't be. This is not about finding a smoking gun, as much as some Democrats might wish it were. What it is about, and what the public will get to hear and read about in wrenching detail over the coming months, is how business gets done down in Texas. How a small group of business leaders exert enormous clout over Bush and his team in getting the rules changed to their benefit. It will explain why Bush has locked up presidential records, locked out any voices opposed to his pro-business agenda and rammed through an expensive economic plan that wiped out the budget surplus but to date hasn't had any positive effect on the economy. It will explain what influence Enron Chief Executive Ken Lay and his advisers had with Cheney and his energy task force when they met six times last year while the vice president was putting together the administration's energy policy. And it will explain why Bush is now thinking about acting on a proposal from that very task force that seeks to roll back a key provision of the Clean Air Act that helps keep factory pollution down by requiring new controls when old plants are upgraded. Enron won't bring down Bush. He remains enormously popular for his handling of the war and the rebuilding of the country's psyche after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. But it will be a major thorn in his side through the rest of this presidential term, and it might even play a role in the next election, depending on what comes out. Enron, the company, will soon be gone. But Enron, the symbol of how big business and big politics sometimes conspire to fix the game, is just starting to dawn on the national consciousness. It's an ugly story. One that explains a lot about what's going on in our nation's capital right now. And it's only just beginning.

Tish, also a good post. I have spoken to quite a few people who dealt on a daily basis with Rudy and despite the great job he did from 9-11 to 12-31,most of his term of eight years will be remembered for his power hungry egotistal 'my way or no way' attitude. His most 'ballsy' act was demanding that three NYPD members be assigned to guard his girlfriend. No wonder son Andrew acted like he did at Rudy's first swearing in ceremony - an apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Donna had to put up with a lot from Rudy. She had to deal with him and the big affair before Judith. They fought constantly and in front of staff (yes I know this firsthand) she is a shrew, and he is an ass of a husband. But do remember that the same circumstances he left her under are precisely the ones in place when he met DONNA. He dumped his wife for her and they lived together for years in DC before the divorce was final. She turned a blind eye thinking she could change him, and all the grown ups know that people do not change. He was always a power hungry man, and for most of his term I disliked his facist attitude. His good accomplishments are amazing, but his cruelty to staff, press, our police force and those street vendors makes me sick. He rose to the occasion and more this past September and made me think that THAT was the reason he was put in office - to guide us through. He was wonderful.

Happy New Year Everyone! Though I'm not really interested in politics much, Sept. 11th has shamed me into reading more about our policies. One thing I've noticed is that Politicans really must devote all their time and energy to the job. Take Guiliani for example. I've always liked him as the Mayor. Just as I really loved Koch. You have to say it like it is and not worry if you are politically correct 24/7. On New Years Eve I really was put off by his and Judith Nathan acting like husband and wife. She got special treatment at every ceremony, him kissing her when the ball dropped, etc. Two very selfish people. You can't be a devoted Husband when you love YOURSELF first which is what Bill Clinton and Rudy Guiliani do. We got a great Mayor on the expense of his family. Donna Hanover walked a higher road after HIS girlfriend's child hit the front page of the paper. Guess the daughter had her own plans on New Year's Eve, as did his children. They won't be a successful couple, just like Bill and Hillary will never be the kind of couple they pretend to be. WHO CARES! He didn't do anything to any of us....just his wife and child. I personally would like my children to be more considerate of others and not be President!

President Clinton urged Congress Tuesday to act swiftly in developing anti-terrorism legislation before its August recess."We need to keep this country together right now. We need to focus on this terrorism issue," Clinton said during a White House news conference. But while the president pushed for quick legislation, Republican lawmakers hardened their stance against some of the proposed anti-terrorism measures. One key GOP senator was more critical, calling a proposed study of chemical markers in explosives "a phony issue." Clinton said he knew there was Republican opposition to his proposal on explosive taggants, but it should not be allowed to block the provisions on which both parties agree. "What I urge them to do is to be explicit about their disagreement, but don't let it overcome the areas of agreement," he said. The president emphasized coming to terms on specific areas of disagreement would help move the legislation along. The president stressed it's important to get the legislation out before the weekend's recess, especially following the bombing of Centennial Olympic Park and the crash of TWA Flight 800. "The most important thing right now is that they get the best, strongest bill they can out -- that they give us as much help as they can," he said.

The only known protection to prevent onset of this terrible disease is to change one's political persuasion, and not engage in skellatio with an infected individual. This public heath message has been bought to you by A.S.S.

Where do they get these people? Your signature contains a certain irony. You imply that President Clinton Vetoing a bill that would have made visas and driver's licenses expire at the same somehow enabled further terrorist attacks. As proof you point out that Atef was pulled over in June for driving without a license. If he didn't have a #(*$(ing licens what difference does it make if his license had expired on the same day as his visa? It cracks me up that the Fox "News" Chanel and the rest of Herr Murdoch's vast right wing media empire are now trying to imply that President Clinton should have caught and killed Osama years ago, based on "inteligence reports". For four solid months this guy has had the entire world on his ass and he has still evaded capture. That's not a criticism of the current President, just a statement of fact. These people are very cunning and whily. 21 of the 22 most wanted terrorists that were named the week of September 11th are still at large. (One was killed by a bomb in October.) Let's be practical here.

The Clinton Administration forged a bipartisan coalition to pass NAFTA, after concluding tough negotiations on side agreements covering workers' rights, the environment, and import surges. Exports to Mexico rose 23 percent in the first 11 months of 1994. President Clinton led the fight to pass GATT, which lowers tariffs worldwide by $744 billion over ten years -- the largest international tax cut in history. GATT cuts tariffs on manufactured goods by more than one-third overall and eliminates tariffs in major markets in a number of sectors in which the U.S. is particularly competitive.

The President's Northwest Forest Plan is putting communities in the Northwest back to work, while conserving ancient forests. After decades of conflict, the Clinton Administration negotiated a consensus plan to protect California's most valuable natural resource -- its water. Under the President's Direct Student Loan program, students can borrow money directly from the government at a lower interest rate and with many flexible repayment options, including the option to repay with a percentage of their after-graduation salary. Taxpayers will save at least $4.3 billion over five years. In 1994, over 20,000 AmeriCorps members tutored students, immunized children, reclaimed urban parks, and patrolled neighborhoods. In return, they earned $4,725 per year of service towards college tuition or job training. President Clinton signed into law Goals 2000, a national standard of excellence for our public schools. Already, 41 states and territories have received federal grants to raise academic standards and improve schools. President Clinton's Safe and Drug Free Schools and Community Act and the Safe Schools Act provide funding to schools to fight violence and drug abuse. Schools can use up to 25 percent of their funds to purchase metal detectors, develop safe zones, and hire school security personnel. The President's School-to-Work program provides venture capital to spark a nationwide system for moving America's young people from high school to a job with a future. In 1994, all states received planning funds for their school-to-work program. Charter School legislation signed by President Clinton encourages states and localities to set up public school choice.
