Mickster - About eight years ago I was taking a flight from LaGuardia to Atlanta.
While waiting for boarding call I saw a few girls go running over to some guys
with long hair. I then called home and gave my daughter (17 then) a description
and she immediately knew it was the Black Crowes. I quickly grabbed some note
paper and got their autographs. They then took the same flight as me, but they
in 1st class. I can't comment on the quality of their music, but seeing them very
close up, I am shocked they are still alive and not malnutrition victims.

Sez and Mickster,I agree with both of you guys. The Black Crowes do not get the

that is Chris rubs allot of people the wrong way.You either think he's funny or

don't agree with the reasons why you *think* they do this....They use to have
all the artist and suits seated up front that would just sit there and clap when
the songs were over. The TV execs saw this and someone had a great idea to let
regular fans sit in front of the performers stage.Instead of a 60 year old record
exec sitting there saying"U WHO?",they have 20 somethings that know todays music. This
way it looks to the whole tv audience like the whole crowd is going crazy on there.

LONDON (Reuters) - Spike Milligan, a founding father of 20th century British comedy
and zany genius behind the ground-breaking "Goon Show," died Wednesday aged 83.
Milligan, pioneer of the meandering joke without a punch line, turned surreal
comedy into an art form, influencing a whole generation of British comedians from
the "Beyond the Fringe" team to "Monty Python's Flying Circus." Fellow comedian
Eddie Izzard hailed Milligan as "the godfather of alternative comedy." Heir-to-the-throne
Prince Charles, one of the Goons' greatest fans, said he had "a great affection"
for Milligan. Along with Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers, Milligan's inconsequential
nonsense and silly voices reigned supreme. He took zany humor to new heights of
absurdity -- but at a cost. Secombe admitted that he and Sellers "rode on the
thermal currents of (Spike's) imagination" and it was Milligan who wrote all the
scripts for The Goon Show -- 26 a year from 1951 to 1960.

Bottom line is this: Mae West is the biggest star who ever lived in Woodhaven,
but it was brief and she was already an adult. Eric Carr wasn't born there but
he did spend a lot a time of there, and was buried there. But let's face it he
was the other drummer in Kizz, not Peter Chris. Cyndi Lauper lived in Woodhaven
for a time, but most lived in OZ and Howard Beach. The one undisputable, no b.s,

it to see if it mentioned Woodhaven. This is the one quote I found: "By 1920 [when
Mae was 27 years old] the family had moved to a house in Woodhaven, Long Island
[SIC], a working class neighborhoold conveniently located near Aqueduct race track."

Mt. Saint Sez---Did you know that flatulence is flammable ??? It is a form of
high octane methane.Tests were conducted by specimens farting into large plastic
bags...when the bags were filled, the contained aerosol effluvia was forced out
of the bags in the presence of lit matches, (and of course, the testers were wearing
NASA approved entry suits). The escaping gases were quickly ignited when coming
in contact with the lit matches. The flame outs could be seen for about seven hundred
feet. This was the new and improved testing technique that was developed, because
the old method, which consisted of heavily gloved hands holding matches near exposed, percolating
rectii, was inherently too dangerous. Not only were the testers at times, contaminated,
they oftentimes were severley burned about the upper body. The involved rectii
were usually severely charred as well, which caused a severe influx of burn victims
using all available bed space in area burn units, prompting doctors to complain
about all the blackened brown eyes they had to deal with.

Plain and Simple to you - I'm sorry if I offended your sensitivities with that
off the cuff joke. That's all it was. When did we reach the point that we cannot
make black people, just like anyone else, the brunt of a joke, without it being
racist. It was nothing more than a play off the phrase Home Boys, but to someone
like you we can't make fun of anything that has anything to do with any of our
minorities. Live in your cocoon of intolerance, I will continue to see and applaud
the positives of diversity, while at the same time I will laugh at and decry the
negatives and silliness, when I see it. And if you don't think that every race
has the lead in certain negative stereotypes you just 'aint been looking. Here's
a question for you and I'd like an honest answer. Did you see/laugh at "White
Men Can't Jump"? Bet you did. So did I. Bet you would have screamed bloody murder
though, if the movie had been titled "Black Men Can't Swim". Get off your high
horse and accept a little down to earth laugh at ourselves from time to time.

that is the intolerant side. You have no time for any actual discussion on these
issues because you are the enlightened, so you resort to name calling. It happens

Marge - I'm not sure if this is the same dairy where your family got deliveries
- but our family got Walker Gordon milk for years. Recently, someone had a photo
of the dairy for sale on Ebay. Nice to hear that the Forest Park pond is being
recreated again. A postcard I saw for sale on Ebay was of the old pond west of
Woodhaven Blvd that was down in a bowl. We used to catch tadpoles in there. I
think that's the one that got filled in for tennis courts. And my favorite Dugan's
was their bran muffins with raisins and the coffee ring cakes. Many years ago,
my husband met one of the Dugan kids out here in Colorado. Earlier, wasn't there
an graniteware factory near the Dugan's? Lalance and Grosjean was the name. I
check out the Ebay auctions for Woodhaven things every once in a while. Mostly
it's old postcards that come up for sale. And also tin toys made by a company
called the Woodhaven Toy company of Brooklyn. One more thing - does anyone remember
the Dominican nun who used to sit outside a store in Jamaica and collect donations?
Just last night, my husband and I were talking about the black woman who used
to dress up like a nun and go from store to store along Jamaica Ave in Woodhanven
trying to collect money.

Don't tell me that the Irish have taken over New Park Pizza. When Sez,myself and
the rest of our crowd would drive home from a Friday or Saturday evening at Rockaway's
Pubs,we would usually stop at NPP. The owner (about 80) was just called Pop by
everyone and his son would wake him up when the crowds came in. During the summer
you sat outside on the picnic tables just off Cross Bay Blvd.'s sidewalk. When
I got married about 6 or 7 years later, our first apartment was only two blocks
away. Sometimes instead of pizza, the guys would go to Dotty's Diner on Rockaway
Blvd.,near 82 St.,across from the old Friendly Frost store. Sylvester was the
late night cook whipping up some great bacon, eggs and home fries. Sez, does anyone
in Arizona have home fries ?

John Jenson: I don't know if I remember there actually being a play or if we just
had to read book for English or something. I was on stage a few times both for
an assembly or 2 and a night show. I was in the Modern Dance class. We performed
to West Side Story and Take 5. Can't remember the others. I always danced in Marie,
Dance in the Gym and I Have a Love. I loved that class.

Sez- That's true, at least at one time, but I actually ate there a couple of years
ago, and it wasn't as good as it used to be. Thanks for the pardon Anti!

Marge/Jim-- I went to Lane for just a year. 1964, Then I went to Food & Maritime
in "The City". Do yoiu happen to remember a play that was held at Lane that year?
It was called "The devil and Daniel Webster". I had an EXTREMELY small part in
that play. There was a cop, I can't remember his name, but he was an African American
that usually walked the beat on Jamaica Avenue, and I remember very well how he
prevented me from getting whopped on Dexter Park Drive one day. Heck of a guy.
Remember getting the Daily News and the Mirror? The big square black trucks that
used to deliver them at night to the candy stores? I think they used toi drop
them off on the sidewalk, and they'd actually still be there in the morning when
the candy stores opened. Ahhhh, Italian Ices... I miss them too. Pizza City (Scicilian
slices were my favorite), The Big Bow-Wow, the old PT boat by the canal near where
engine 331/Ladder 173 of the FDNY is. I'll think of more stuff later!
